Ice, ice baby

The craving and chewing ice (pagophagia) is often associated with iron deficiency anemia. In a small number of people, there may be other nutritional deficiencies or compulsive behavior. Chewing on ice can cause fractures in enamel, tooth sensitivity, and even broken teeth. Especially for those with sensitive teeth already, chewing ice will most likely worsen the pain.
